My 9 1/2 year-old German Shepherd, Justice died 10-22-23 after his first Librela injection. He was chasing leaves falling from my maple tree on the evening of Oct 4… about 16 hours before his vet appointment on October 5, (when he got his one and only injection of Librela. Within 12 hours of the injection, I could tell something was very wrong. He became urine incontinent, began stumbling and his affect became totally flat, as if he was in a perpetual daze. Over the next 17 days leading up to his death, his appetite sharply declined. He developed extreme swelling in one back leg. He also developed immune mediated thrombocytopenia and immune mediated anemia. He lost all use of his back legs and lost the ability to coordinate his front legs. My dog was chasing leaves in the yard on the day of the shot and died a horrific death 17 days afterwards. We spent thousands of dollars in those 17 days in veterinary interventions, trying to save his life. The day following his death, I transported his body to the North Carolina State necropsy lab located in Elkin, North Carolina. His spleen was enlarged to seven times its normal size. His bladder was distended and contained 1.5 L of urine that could not even be manually expressed during the necropsy. His gallbladder was bile distended. And this only names a few of the abnormalities found. The pathologist told me I must have been mistaken about the day that he was playing in the yard because there was no way my dog could have done so, with that many serious and life threatening medical conditions. I explained to her I was ABSOLUTELY NOT mistaken because it was on my birthday. She was speechless. It is reckless and quite frankly, cruel and preposterous that librela, Solensia and other anti-NGF monoclonal antibody injections are still available, given its high propensity for death and serious adverse events. You have the data. Your own statistics tell the whole story. Librela is not only dangerous but also deadly. Owners and especially, our beloved pets deserve so much better from the agency charged with protecting them. Please recall Librela. #JusticeforJustice
