Summary: A veterinarian (implied by the description of managing patients and advising owners) provides anecdotal evidence of severe joint destruction and neurological side effects in patients treated with Librela. I have managed two patients that were treated with Librela that appeared to have substantial joint destruction as a result of Librela administration. One patient developed instability in the carpi and metacarpophalanageal joints. We did report this case to the University of Missouri as part of the study those individuals (Dr. Derek Fox et al.) were performing. I had a second case with severe destruction and instability of the tarsus. This joint was not the initial target joint/index joint (ie was not why Librela had been prescribed in the first place). I advised the owner and primary care veterinarian to submit information on this case to the FDA and Zooetis but I do not know that such information was submitted. I have had other patients for whom the owners reported neurologic side effects, most were transient clinical signs that resolved with discontinuing the Librela. One such patient did report to Zooetis and presumably Zooetis paid for further diagnostics for such patient.
