Summary: The commenter is a pet owner who argues that the drug Librela is dangerous and should be pulled from the market. They support the citizen petition by requesting additional safety studies, stronger warning labels, and independent reviews of the drug's safety data.
My beloved border collie, Bailey received Librela at the direction of the vet. He suffered from this horrible drug that should never have been approved for use. In 5 years over 5,500 reports of death from this drug have been made to the FDA as well as Zoetis. Zoetis continues to deny any ill effects from the drug they knowingly made available for use. Finally there is an insert with the medication that mentions all the adverse effects yet that was NEVER given to me, nor were any of these effects conveyed to me. Librela is an NGF blocker, a vital molecule for brain health, neuron survival and pain regulation. Adverse effects have been reported on the liver, kidneys, the heart, back end weakness and the list goes on, encompassing 40 pages. How can this drug be accepted for use? It is killing our pets, subjecting them to unwarranted suffering? This needs to be pulled from the market and frankly Zoetis should be fined. They were issued a warning from the FDA in 2024 yet continued to market this drug and ignore the warning. I am requesting several actions, including: Additional long-term safety studies Stronger warning labels Neurologic evaluations before and during treatment Better owner education about potential risks More detailed adverse event reporting An independent advisory committee review of Librela’s safety data Creation of a public FDA resource dedicated to Librela safety information
