Summary: Johanna Ihli, a private individual, supports the removal of fluoroquinolone medications from the market. She argues that these drugs caused severe, long-term disabling symptoms in her and believes they should not be prescribed as a first-line treatment.
I was prescribed Ciprofloxacin at least 9x and levofloxacin at least 1x between 2008 and 2015. I had symptoms during that time but thought they were due to aging, peri-menopause, anxiety. In 2015 is when it was like a bomb went off in my body. There are honestly too many symptoms to list here. It was so bad that I could barely leave the house. My body, 11 years later, is still stuck in the fight or flight response. I suffer still on a daily basis and don't have much of a life. These medications can be so disabling far beyond tendon ruptures which for many years is what the doctors kept saying was the only bad effect they had heard of caused by Fluoroquinolones. These should no doubt be taken off of the market. There are black box warnings that state to only prescribe if its a last resort and yet every day there are people being prescribed this l These drugs for a diagnosis that could be solved with a different drug. Also, the fact that we can't seek retribution for all of the pain and suffering and financial loss we have endured just because they are a generic drug is absolutely criminal.
