Summary: The commenter shares a personal account of severe, life-altering disability and chronic pain resulting from the use of fluoroquinolone antibiotics (Levaquin and ciprofloxacin). They argue that the medical system has failed to address these injuries and express a desire for action regarding the harm caused by these drugs.
Something was happening to me, my happy, quick witted self was changing. I knew something was not right. I tried to shake it off for a long time, finally I went to the Drs and got on that merry go round for years. In 2012 the patient portals were available, I was shocked at what I read. Desperate to get myself back to who I was I started deeper research and of course the internet had expanded. When I figured it out, The Doctors told me it was all in my head. One symptom was my feet and 8 inches up my legs were in constant pain, I was offered drugs, not once did one say show me, can I see, nothing! And I went to at least 7 Doctors screaming just about mt feet. This started in 2008, in 2013 my right foot exploded, I heard it, passed out. By the time I got to the ER outside my right ankle looked like it had a baseball on it. Till this day I’m still ignored, but I must say I quit trying in 2015. And to say again. This is one symptom. I aged 20 years, I have to sit down every 20 minutes. My concern is for the generations after me, there is no fix for us at this time. I know people who have spent 100’s of thousands of dollars and still there life is changed forever as they knew it. The disassociation that comes with not being able to be who you were is devastating. I pulled my records I took Levaquin in 2008, 2009, and ciprofloaxacin in 2012. Do no harm has vanished. The system is broken. Here we are a hundred years later and the discovery of antibiotics that saved people are now maiming and killing us. I became disabled to work. My disability says Fluoroquinolone Toxicty with suspected Mitochondrial dysfunction. I’d finally gotten to a neurologist that had experienced the effects of Fluoroquinolones. I was given these drugs for what started as a sinus infection, after the first I stayed sick till I figured out they were keeping me on some sort of antibiotics. The pain scale they ask about for rating your pain from 1-10, 10 being the worst is a joke. When I said 10, I was told no your not or we would be calling an ambulance. Trust in the broken system is gone!
