Summary: Joyce Holdread, a private individual, supports the proposed ban on mercury in dental amalgams. She argues that mercury is a neurotoxin and expresses concern that its use in dentistry is outdated compared to other countries.
I am writing to urge the government to ban all use of mercury in dental amalgams. When I lived in Mexico, I was so fortunate as the dentist I went to there never used mercury amalgams, and to me it is unthinkable that they are still used here in the U.S.--a more "enlightened country?" Mercury is a neurotoxin for God's sake; how can we even consider its use anywhere in the human body? We've gotten its use in vaccines mostly eliminated--thank God!, but it must be completely banned from dental amalgam use as well. The rest of the world is way ahead of us in this. Let's catch up! Sincerely, Joyce Holdread
