Comment from Sequatchie Cove Farm

Summary: A family poultry farmer supports the petition to prevent misleading marketing by large companies that label barn-raised hens as "Pasture Raised." The commenter argues that honest labeling is necessary to protect the integrity of the pasture-raised market and the hard work of small producers.
Our family has been raising Pasture Raised Laying hens for over 3 decades. To us this is about honesty and transparency. Raising hens on pasture 24/7 takes hard work and is requires producers to take on significant risks. Consumers deserve to know how their food was raised particularly if they are paying a premium for that food. Unfortunately big companies and some farms are trying to make a quick buck by raising hens in barns and labeling their product as Pasture Raised while charging a premium price to market that product. This is misleading marketing and undermines the hard work that farms like ours have been doing for decades.
