I am in strong support of American Pastured Poultry Producers Associations petition to define "pasture raised" shell eggs to mean what consumers believe it to mean; hens having access to pasture for daylight hours, better living environment, access to insects, and an overall happier lifestyle that not only makes us as humans feel good but literally improves the nutrients in the eggs they lay. It is blatant lying if these hens are in a cage looking out at a pasture or only have the space they are standing on to forage and roam. It's not only misleading marketing but theft by charging high premium prices for what is essentially standard eggs. Those trying for a healthier lifestyle are only getting half the Omega-3s and other nutrients that are found in actual pasture raised eggs. They have a taste that is rich and delicious that we find worth paying a higher price for that we aren't getting. Worst is that our hearts pay this premium price because we want and believe the happiness and wellbeing of these LIVING animals are important. There are so many reasons why this is such an important issue that needs to be addressed. Farmers deserve to get paid for the loving care they show their animals. Big companies like Market Fresh/Walmart, are stealing from them as well. Consumers want transparency, we want healthier food, we want better living environments for the animals that sustain us. It's simple. It's not all about the bottom line. I would rather pay for healthier food than pay doctors for the chronic illness or cancer from the poison, toxins, nutrient depleted food we are currently paying outrageous prices for.
