Summary: Marcia Cohen Zakai, a senior citizen, supports the approval of Moderna's mRNA influenza vaccine. She argues that the vaccine's ability to better match flu strains and improve effectiveness will increase public uptake and protect the community.
Hello VRBPAC Members, I am a senior who relies every fall on getting my influenza vaccine, but many people unfortunately skip getting vaccinated; they cite low effectiveness rates ranging between 30-60%. We now have an opportunity to increase flu vaccine uptake with Moderna’s mRNA vaccine technology that is able to better match the latest flu strains and improve vaccine effectiveness. When people are correctly informed and realize that a vaccine is now more effective than previously at preventing severe illness, hospitalization and death, they are more likely to grasp the importance of getting vaccinated, not only for themselves, but for the people they work, study, live with and care for. I urge the Committee to expertly review the scientific evidence for the Moderna flu vaccine and approve it in time for the upcoming flu season. Sincerely, Marcia Cohen Zakai
