Docket: FDA-2026-N-4162
June 14, 2026
To the FDA Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee:
I am writing in strong support of enhanced and increased influenza vaccination options.
Moderna’s mRNA vaccine platform not only shown superior effective to the standard-dose flu vaccine, but it has has the added advantage of allowing more timely updates to match circulating strains and to tailor to emerging pathogens. This would have been particularly useful last Fall with the emergence of slubclsde K last Fall. This would also set a baseline for future variants such as H5N1 avian influenza.
Adding another option for flu vaccines, along with appropriate campaigns can only increase vaccine uptake which is sorely needed.
FDA’s initial refusal to review Moderna’s influenza vaccine appeared to be the result of anti-vaccine interference. Vaccine approvals must be based on scientific evidence along with expert review. These approvals must proceed without unnecessary delays.
