Summary: A retired physician supports the approval of Moderna's mRNA influenza vaccine. They argue that the mRNA platform allows for faster development and better matching of circulating strains compared to current vaccines.
I'm a retired physician. I get my influenza vaccine every year. It helps protect me from influenza.
Current influenza vaccines are poorly protective, though, partly because they take time to develop, so influenza viruses can mutate, before influenza vaccines reach the market.
Moderna's mRNA vaccine can be developed faster, so will be more likely to match circulating influenza strains, providing better protection.
Initial studies also show that mRNA influenza vaccines work better than current vaccines.
Help me avoid influenza. Approve Moderna's mRNA influenza vaccine.
