Mifepristone was originally approved for for dispensing in the doctor’s office under the directed care of a physician qualified to monitor for the severe side effects that can occur in women taking this medication including life threatening bleeding and death if untreated. The FDA was well aware of the serious side effects and placed these limitations on the prescribing of mifepristone for the safety of the women taking this pill most of whom were relatively unaware of what they were about to go through. When covid came along, politicians used this excuse to intervene and remove the FDA Safety requirements in a move to increase their popularity with the abortion industry and those seeking an abortion. Mifepristone became available by mail without the required physician visit and thorough counseling on the potential side effects and need for emergent medical intervention. Many women taking mifepristone no longer had the direct benefit of a local physician supervising and monitoring their health related complications from this procedure. Things have even gotten worse since the State laws have been passed outlawing mifepristone in certain states for safety reasons. This has only spurred money hungry pseudo health care prescribers to mail the poison pill all over the Country without even seeing the patient. Whatever happened to ethics in health care? This only accentuates the risk of the drug falling into the wrong hands including men who slip the pill to their unsuspecting and unaware partners. None of this promotes health care safety for women. Mifepristone is a lethal agent in more ways then one. If it is to be prescribed at all, it should be after a physical exam by a licensed gynecologist with the medication handed to the person who actually has consented to take it and been offered alternatives. Unfortunately, most of the politicians pushing mail order mifepristone have little knowledge of the severity of the side effects including death to the mother and are more concerned about pushing an agenda then women’s health and safety. All of the people considering the allowance of mail-order mifepristone should watch the documentary Unplanned as well as review the extensive list of serious side effects associated with mifepristone.
