Summary: The commenter supports the petition to regulate NarxCare as a "Software as a Device" to ensure transparency and oversight. They argue that the current proprietary algorithm used to deny pain medications lacks clinical input and creates risks of malpractice.
Hello, NarxCare has made filling my valid prescription pain medication difficult because the pharmacies have denied filling because the of the software without any explanation as to why. NarxCare must be openly and properly regulated in the same way all medical devices are scrutinized to ensure the best patient care outcomes. Today nobody knows why or what this arbitrary secret algorithm indicates values that are then used to deny pain medications without any input from patient examination completed by position specialist who many times are board certified in this specific area. Using data to help craft and implement patient care plans many times is a good thing however if nobody knows the logic behind the data incorporating the proprietary secret values leads to dire malpractice. Please classify NarxCare as Software as a Device since many times is utilized as the sole mechanism for denying medications as part of pain management care plans without detail explanations. This algorithm must be open and transparent to the public so patient's and their Physicians can make the best medical decisions with a focus on patient outcomes.
