Summary: A former university department chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology opposes the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists' petition. As a previous Chair of two university departments of Obstetrics and Gyneciology, I am agast at the statments of the younger colleagues from my American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of which I've been a fellow for over 50 years) in support of the induced abortion activities of Planned Parenthood of America. Induced abortion, whether medical or surgical is not health care, at least not for the health of the living fetus, who is one of our two patients we as obstetricians are in our care. I urge the US CDC to scientifically and courageously inverstigate all claims of those who urge suspending thorough and responsible warning and discussion of potential untoward effects for the mother and fatal effects for the offspring that may result from any induced abortion procedure. Do not back down from doing what is right.
