Summary: The commenter, a patient who has successfully used physician-supervised compounded peptide therapy to manage metabolic health and perimenopause, supports the action of preserving patient access to these therapies. She emphasizes the importance of personalized medicine and requests that the FDA maintain options for appropriately prescribed compounded treatments.
I respectfully submit this comment as a patient whose life has been meaningfully improved through physician-supervised compounded peptide therapy.
I am a 51-year-old woman who has experienced the challenges of perimenopause, hormonal changes, and metabolic dysfunction. Like many others, I worked hard to improve my health through nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle changes. I exercised with a personal trainer, worked with a registered dietitian, and remained committed to making healthy choices. Despite those efforts, I struggled to achieve meaningful and sustainable results.
Under the care of a licensed healthcare provider, compounded peptide therapy became part of a personalized treatment plan that finally addressed what my body needed. My experience has been about far more than the number on a scale.
I have lost nearly 50 pounds, but the greatest victories have been the non-scale victories. I have reclaimed my health, mobility, confidence, and quality of life. I have reduced my waist size by more than six inches and reclaimed clothing I had carefully held onto for decades. I have more energy to serve my community, lead my business, and participate in the activities that bring purpose to my life.
I am also recovering from a serious workplace injury that resulted in post-concussive syndrome and orthopedic injuries. Improving my metabolic health has supported my broader commitment to recovery and has given me hope during a very difficult season of life. While compounded peptide therapy has not treated those injuries, improving my overall health has made it easier for me to stay engaged in my rehabilitation and continue pursuing wellness.
My treatment has been carefully supervised by a qualified healthcare provider. I have received ongoing monitoring, education, and individualized dosing based on my specific needs. That personalized approach has been essential to my success.
I recognize the FDA’s important responsibility to protect public health by ensuring the safety and quality of medications. I support strong oversight, quality standards, and enforcement against unsafe or inappropriate compounding practices. At the same time, I respectfully ask that patient access to appropriately prescribed compounded peptide therapies be preserved when they are medically necessary and provided under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals.
Every patient is different. Medicine should recognize that reality. Personalized care has allowed me to reclaim my health after years of frustration, and I hope others who may benefit from individualized treatment will continue to have access to these options.
Thank you for considering my experience as you evaluate this important issue.
