Summary: A private citizen who identifies as a vegan supports the proposed requirement for "contains animals" food labels. They argue that such a disclosure would provide transparency for consumers with allergies, health concerns, or ethical preferences, particularly regarding products with ambiguous ingredients like "natural flavors."
I'm writing in support of requiring all food labels to include the "contains animals" disclosure. It would provide an easy and transparent way for consumers to make decisions based on their allergies, health concerns, personal ethics, etc. As a vegan for the last 16 years, I would especially benefit from such a label. While many products are now labeled "Vegan," some that appear to not contain animal ingredients sneak it in (such as "Natural flavors," for example), and it would be helpful to navigate the products that are not certified vegan, but may be "accidentally" vegan instead. Thank you for your consideration!
