Summary: A nurse expresses frustration over the difficulty of managing alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) due to inadequate food and product labeling. They argue that the government should require clearer labeling, similar to EU standards, to ensure consumer safety and accessibility.
Clear labeling needs to be required. As a nurse trying to guide alpha gal patients, it is beyond frustrating (if not impossible) to make safe choices. Consumers have a right to know what is in their food, medicine, personal care products, etc. Trying to manage AGS safely is like taking a crash course in chemistry, nutrition, pharmacology, so on. We need to align with EU labeling. I constantly refer patients to ordering from the EU since their labels are clearer. This isn't an accessible option for all. The labeling must be clearer.
