Dear ladies and gentlemen of the FDA,
We have relied on the use of metronidazole in our profession for diarrhea in dogs and cats for decades. It is essential to have this in our stock so that clients can administer it to small patients easily when they are sick. We use it for giardia, inflammatory bowel disease, and colitis, as well as for the inflammation of certain viral diarrheas.
Making patients wait until it can be compounded could be life threatening to some patients. I hope you will reconsider the new rule for Office stock of this antibiotic. Most practices only order a small supply, and only give our less than 30ml. Larger animals can take the tablets.
