Summary: A veterinary professional (implied by the context of treating patients and prescribing medication) argues that sucralfate should be added to the list of bulk drug substances for compounding. They state that the current requirement to script the product causes delays in emergency care and that the powder formulation is preferred by both owners and animals.
We use sucralfate on an emergency basis routinely and having to script this product has posed challenges for these patients seen after hours, on weekends, and those needing immediate care. Our shipments can take up to two weeks to get compounded products and this doesn't work for the majority of patients. The powder formulation is accessible for owners to administer and our patients like the taste.
