Comment from Rush Veterinary Urgent Care

Summary: A veterinarian (implied by the context of treating pets and hospitalized animals) argues against removing Metronidazole from the list of bulk drug substances for office stock. The commenter states that requiring individual prescriptions would delay necessary treatments for animals and is not in the animals' best interest.
Please reconsider your decision to discontinue Metronidazole for office stock. Requiring veterinarians to write individual prescriptions for this medication would greatly inhibit immediate treatment the animals need. Clients would potentially need to wait days until the medication was filled in order to start treating their pet. That is not in the best interest of the animals. Also, if we needed the medication for hospitalized animals we would be delayed in treatment.
