Compounded Pimobendan needs to be left as option for practitioners to use. I am a veterinary practitioner who frequently uses compounded pimobendan. I live and work in a low income region of Virginia. The name brand pimobendan does not come in appropriate dose forms for us to be able to appropriately treat patients. The name brand drug is also ridiculously expensive. Both of these issues cause severe limitation of who we can safely prescribe this life saving drug to. I can’t help but wonder if this issue has been brought up by big pharma because they are upset that they are not making the money they used to. Compounded pimobendan has been an absolute life saver for so many of my patients who would either not be able to afford the name brand drug or not be able to safely receive the name brand drug in it’s original form. I have seen and documented compounded pimobendan working for many, many patients over the years that I have used this drug. Please reconsider and allow us to have full access to compounded pimobendan.
