Summary: A veterinary clinic owner (business) argues against the restriction of Methimazole from office stock. They state that the restriction delays treatment for sick cats who cannot tolerate oral medication, and they request that the FDA reconsider the decision.
FDA Guidance for Industry #256 has restricted access to Methimazole for office stock. This decision has impacted our ability to immediate treat patients. We have many cats that are in need of transdermal methimazole because clients cannot give oral medication, or the cats vomit up the pills. Please reconsider your decision on Methimazole for Office Use. Waiting a week to start treatment on a very sick patient has been detrimental to many of our patients.
