Summary: A veterinary professional (implied by the mention of "patients" and "owners") argues in favor of including methimazole on the list of bulk drug substances for compounding. They state that the current delay in obtaining compounded medications leaves pets untreated for significant periods, creating a need for easier access to compounded options.
I have seen many negative consequences of not being able to stock compounded methimazole for my patients. Some owners simply cannot medicate their cats with the commercially formatted tablets and require either a liquid or transdermal option. When ordering the medication out through compounding pharmacies, there is a delay of often 10 business days, which means the cat goes untreated for that period of time!
