I would like to comment on compounded azithromycin that is now deemed unavailable for office stock in veterinary practices. The most common form of liquid azithromycin is marketed to humans and is in a cherry, strawberry, etc. flavor. When prescribing this medication to cats, the taste is abysmal to cats and can cause them to not be able to take the medication and owners to not be able to give it. We would like to have compounded azithromycin available for office stock to be able to prescribe to our feline patients. When prescribing this in a correct flavor (and possibly even a higher concentration, meaning a lower dose), this can make client/patient compliance much easier and possible!
