Comment from Blue Ridge Pet Clinic

Summary: A veterinary clinic is requesting that compounded Buprenorphine ER be included on the list of bulk drug substances for office stock. They argue that the commercial version lacks an extended-release formulation and that having the compounded version on hand is ethically imperative for their pain management protocols.
Please allow us to keep office use access to compounded Buprenorphine ER. Pain management for animals in clinic is ethically imperative. We have reliably used compounded injectable Buprenorphine ER in our facility for many years and we must have it available on hand for our protocols. Commercial Buprenorphine injection (Buprenex) is not in an extended release formulation and not acceptable for the long acting use we need it for. Please allow us to retain access to compounded Buprenorphine ER for injection!"
