Summary: An individual is advocating for the inclusion of Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) and Glutathione in the list of bulk drug substances allowed for compounding. They argue that these substances are highly effective at chelating heavy metals and have provided significant health improvements for their relative with Wilson's Disease and for military veterans with heavy metal overload.
I have a relative that is 31 years old. After 11 years of health issues, he was finally diagnosed with Wilsons Disease. It is an issue that is commonly known as copper overload. It is a genetic condition in which his body does not process copper. It is a condition that he was born with. The results of this not being diagnosed are abnormal liver enzymes, cirrhosis of the liver, kidney stones and abnormal copper levels in his blood. He has recently returned from a two week stay at a Naturpathic Clinic to receive Alpha Lipoic Acid IVs. The results of his labs shown a remarkable improvement in both liver enzymes and copper levels. ALA is also known as a chelator of heavy metals. During that stay, his copper levels returned to normal range. This was a huge relief. The excess copper had caused stomach issues, ulcers, nosebleeds, anxiety, and severe sleep deprevation. He has received relief from those symptoms too. ALA is a valuable medication. It is more effective in chelating metals than the approved prescriptions on the market. Even though copper overload is a rare disorder, there are many military veterans that return from deployment with heavy metal overload issues due to the battlefield. Please vote to allow the use of ALA and Gluthathione . It has been extremely helpful for many people and a life changing opportunity for those that choose it as an option.
