Summary: The commenter supports the proposed action by advocating for the FDA to seek authority from Congress to collect data on antibiotic use in large livestock facilities. They argue that this data is necessary to combat antibiotic resistance and to eventually prohibit the overuse of antibiotics on factory farms.
Combatting antibiotic resistance, an unintended consequence of the drug approval process, requires stopping unnecessary and inappropriate antibiotic use. In order to efficiently stop over use data on how and why antibiotics are used on giant livestock raising facilities is needed. FDA should seek from Congress the ability to collect data on antibiotic use from the largest livestock and poultry facilities where most animals are raised and most veterinary drugs are used. FDA should also seek the ability to prohibit the overuse of antibiotics on these giant factory farms.
