Summary: The commenter supports the ADUFA reauthorization but argues that it should include provisions to prohibit the use of antibiotics in healthy animals. They urge the FDA to seek congressional authority to implement these restrictions without lengthy hearings.
Addressing the problems created by the approval of animal drugs should be part of the ADUFA reauthorization. The FDA should not have allowed antibiotics to be given to animals that are not sick in the first place and the FDA should correct that now as part of ADUFA reauthorization. The FDA should ask Congress for the ability to prohibit the use of antibiotics in animals without diagnosed illness without long, expensive, drawn-out hearings.
