Summary: The commenter supports the proposed action by advocating for stronger FDA oversight and data collection regarding antibiotic use in large-scale livestock and poultry facilities. They argue that the FDA should seek congressional authority to monitor and prohibit the overuse of antibiotics on factory farms to combat antibiotic resistance.
Combatting antibiotic resistance, an unintended consequence of the drug approval process, requires stopping unnecessary and inappropriate antibiotic use. In order to efficiently stop over use data on how and why antibiotics are used on giant livestock raising facilities is needed. FDA should seek from Congress the ability to collect data on antibiotic use from the largest livestock and poultry facilities where most animals are raised and most veterinary drugs are used. FDA should also seek the ability to prohibit the overuse of antibiotics on these giant factory farms.
It's hard to understand that we feed animals antibiotics regularly rather than creating healthy environments for them to live in.
