Question 18v on the 8500-8 Form is the source of countless airman revocation actions by the Administrator, many of which could have need avoided.
Question 18v was amended in 2008 to include the word arrest, which now requires all pilot DUI offenders to answer “yes.” However, since the question is compound in nature, putting each of the components of the 18v into their own numbered question would alleviate misunderstandings, confusion, and issues when lengthy compound questions are presented. Example, Arrest as one question, conviction as one question, etc….
