Summary: United Airlines Engineering supports the proposed rule but requests clarification on the eligibility of main fuel pumps for installation. They specifically ask if pumps that complied with GE Service Bulletins but were not overhauled during the same shop visit should be considered eligible.
United Airlines (UAL) Engineering supports incorporation of the proposed rule and appreciates the FAA's consideration of the following:
Per Paragraph (g) Definitions, a main fuel pump that has a part number identified in table 1 to paragraph (c) of this AD is eligible for installation if it has no prior service history, has been overhauled and confirmed to have all thrust bearing screws replaced in accordance with GE Service Bulletins GEnx-1B SB73–0117 or GEnx-2B SB73–0110., or if the main fuel pump was overhauled after January 1, 2023. GE Service Bulletin GEnx-1B SB73–0117 does not mention that the main fuel pump needs to be overhauled in order to comply with SB 73-0117. Can the FAA consider the following: Would a main fuel pump that has had GE Service Bulletins GEnx-1B SB73–0117 or GEnx-2B SB73–0110 complied with, but was not overhauled during the same shop visit, count as a part eligible for installation? If so, then paragraph (g) (iii) would need to state: A main fuel pump that has a part number identified in table 1 to paragraph (c) of this AD that had all thrust bearing screws replaced in accordance with any revision of GE Service Bulletins GEnx-1B SB73–0117 or GEnx-2B SB73–0110.
