Summary: The commenter questions the safety and regulatory compliance of the crew rest area in the Bombardier 8000/7500 aircraft. They argue that the current configuration fails to meet Level 1 requirements and express concern that allowing its use under 135 regulations could compromise safety.
I would like to know if Bombardier has formally certified the crew rest area in the 8000/7500 as a Level 1 with the FAA. Please produce the documents show compliance with AC177-1. Also did NetJets seek and was granted permission to use the rest area from the FAA as a legit rest area? The rest area in the 7500/8000 does not meet the requirements of Level 1. It fails in door noise, no crew storage space, no changing area adjacent to the rest area and other items... Or are we just going to WAG this because it 135 vs 121 when the missions are equal in length and safety is not equal in this case? The problem is now the plane is certified, but is it legal to do the long missions under 135 with a non compliant rest area ? Or we going to continue to consider 135 operations less safe than 121 again. It is on the manufacturer that created the long range aircraft to solve the crew rest issue to ensure safe and efficent operations. It will require a complete redesign in my opinion..
