I understand that Eric Friedman is requesting relief from the current regulatory blanket ban in the form of a formal exemption that contains clear eligibility standards. Because exemptions are publicly available, everyone will know and be entitled to these same provisions. The petition is intended to formalize, standardize and stabilize what AAM is already doing, only replacing the variable and subjective “discretionary issuance” policy with clearly articulated formal standards. The second part of the petition asks to eliminate the drop-dead expiration dates, which are being imposed without regulatory basis. This would return medical certificate validity periods to those specified in the rule (14 CFR section 61.23(d)). Having clear standards will speed up the processing of our applications. In the interest of public safety and government efficiency, I am writing to you to request that Eric’s petition be granted. Thank you.
