Hi. Three huge helicopters flew over my house in Southold today at about 4:41pm just above tree level. They were shaped like boats and had propellers on the front and back. I had just finished raking leaves all day and had been enjoying a private moment on the front stoop in bare feet shaking out my sneakers. I didn't want to be, and I have a right not to be, visible to people flying (just) above my personal property. Low-flying helicopters have created a noise problem on the North Fork particularly in the past few years. I moved to the North Fork specifically to get away from city noise. I used to live in Queens near LGA with jets flying over the house all the time; jets can be loud but at least have a steady rumble. The vibrations of helicopter noise, now ubiquitous on the East End of Long Island, are more jarring and invasive than the noise near LGA in Queens. The East End (and especially the North Fork) is supposed to be a peaceful place; that's the whole point of the East End and why it's a vacation destination for New Yorkers. Please, anything that can be done to get the helicopters to stop flying over my house. Can't the rich people flying to East Hampton from Manhattan use the "south" shore instead, so there'd be no need for them to fly over Long Island at all? People live here.
