Summary: The commenter supports the proposed action and advocates for a "mandatory" South Shore route for helicopters. They argue that the South Shore has better emergency response infrastructure and that flying along the Atlantic coastline is safer for residents than the current North Shore route.
The FAA needs to implement a true “mandatory” South Shore route. The aircraft are servicing clientele that are flying into and out of airports; JPX, MTP Montauk, FOK - Gabreski and a Southampton Ocean front helipad. The south shore (Hamptons) are better equipped with government agencies that can assistant in all emergency situations such as the 106 air rescue located FOK and the US Coastguard located in Hampton Bays. The North fork has no such agencies. The FAA is fully aware that not all helicopters are equipped with a crash resistant fuel system . This is a huge safety issue. No reason to put people on land at risk when the helicopters can fly along the entire Atlantic coastline.
