My Comment:
I support the continued use of the North Shore Helicopter Route when in route to East Hampton (KHTO) and Montauk (KMTP). I would like to see them continue to "voluntarily" take the all over the water route, and make the turn South past Orient Point. I know that voluntary compliance with this route has had little adoption.
For those aircraft landing/departing Westhampton (KFOK), or Southampton Helipad (87N) I would like to see operators use the South Shore Route from NYC.
If aircraft are not owner operated, ie have pilots that are being paid by private owners or other private legal entities (corporations/llcs), they should be held to same standard as commercial operators (part 135) and should have to fly designated routes with minimum altitudes, greater than 3,000 AGL and 3 Statute Miles off shore.
I enjoy private aviation (really all aviation) and want to see it continue on Long Island. I would like East Hampton to remain in a public use capacity. The Helicopter operators who do not follow the rules/routes and fly over my North shore Calverton home at 1,000 feet AGL (or less), are ruining it for everyone. The noise of the rotor compared to fixed wing turbo prop sea planes is not even comparable.
I hope these comments are helpful.
Thank you, Bryan Kappenberg
