I support the proposal to eliminate vehicle emissions testing requirements in the following North Carolina counties:
Alamance, Buncombe, Cabarrus, Cumberland, Davidson, Durham, Forsyth, Franklin, Gaston, Guilford, Iredell, Johnston, Lincoln, New Hanover, Randolph, Rowan, Union, and Wake.
North Carolina has demonstrated that these counties can continue meeting federal air quality standards without mandatory emissions testing. Modern vehicle technology, onboard diagnostic systems, and improved air quality data support removing this requirement while maintaining annual vehicle safety inspections.
Ending emissions testing in these counties will reduce costs, eliminate unnecessary burdens on drivers, simplify the registration process, and provide relief to working families without compromising air quality standards.
For these reasons, I support approval of the proposal.
