Summary: The commenter supports the Department of Education's proposed waiver and extension for the Arts in Education National Program. They argue that the extension ensures continuity for existing programs and provides the Department with necessary time to develop a future competition process without disrupting current services.
I support the Department of Education's proposed waiver and extension regarding the Arts in Education National Programs project period. This request allows for the existing grant and project of approved arts education to continue to help students while the Department can continue to develop a competition process for future funding. Arts education is well-rounded and important, specifically for students with disabilities or those at a disadvantage. The expansion of the current grant opens for opportunities of no disruption to programs that are operating well and in scope of approved and federal goals in sight. This waiver does not show any regulatory burden and has already proved strength with purpose. I believe administrative flexibility would be in practical use here as this supports continuities, looks out for students availability in arts education, and gives the Department time to compromise with federal requirements in a helpful way. I respectfully support this waiver.
