I am writing to urge the ED to continue to support Equity Assistance Centers (EAC) as the primary provider of civil rights technical assistance. As someone who has personally witnessed the great lengths members of these organizations go to in order to better the lives and educations of students across the country I see no benefit in reducing their potency. These centers are the only dedicated way states and districts can reduce discrimination to increase access to education. EACs perform a unique role including localized expertise that would be difficult to replace with federal agencies. They also have a history of doing this work - starting over with new organizations would be a waste of time, energy, and money.
