Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed regulatory change because they believe it would allow airlines to hide the total price of tickets behind "mysterious fees and taxes." They argue that the DOT should maintain the full-fair rule to ensure transparency for consumers.
I would hope the proposed regulatory change (DOT-OST-2025-0831) will not be implemented. The total price to be paid for an airline ticket should be the most obvious item in an ad for said ticket. That is what people want to know first and foremost. Then I want to know how much of that total is mysterious fees and taxes that the airlines conjure up to allow them to make their (large) profits. The consideration by DOT to do away with the full-fair rule completely is beyond belief. An airline could advertise a base fare of $5 and you end up paying $500 based on the taxes and fees that are not disclosed until you pay for the ticket.
