Summary: A lawful permanent resident is requesting that the CDC reconsider the policy preventing LPRs from returning to the United States after traveling to certain countries. The commenter argues that the policy creates significant hardship for families and suggests that existing public health screening measures for citizens should be applied to LPRs as well.
As a lawful permanent resident, I hope CDC will reconsider the current policy that prevents LPRs from returning to the United States after travel to the affected countries. The original May 18 Order allowed lawful permanent residents to return, and I hope CDC will consider restoring that approach. Public health screening and monitoring already exist for U.S. citizens returning from these countries, and I believe those same measures could be used for lawful permanent residents. Many of us have built our lives in the United States. Being unable to return home creates significant hardship for families while still allowing others to enter under public health safeguards.
