My name is K. Beckett and I live in Bend, Oregon. I am submitting a comment on legislation that intends to weaken protections for wilderness areas. I oppose any revision to policies for consideration and management of wilderness on public lands that would weaken protections for Wilderness Areas, Wilderness Study Areas, Lands with Wilderness Characteristics, or recommended, proposed, and eligible wilderness. I recommend that any revisions to the BLM’s Manual: Mandate the preservation of finite and irreplaceable wildlands Emphasize how wilderness preservation also conserves wildlife habitat Require accurate information and science-based management Preserve the public’s role in wildlands management I have lived in Alaska for 22 years and Oregon for 12 years. I have recreated in wilderness areas for years. I have great respect for green and wild outdoor spaces. We have a responsibility to those who follow us to leave the land in better shape than what we found it. Weakening protections on these lands is a great disservice to those who have set these lands aside for protection from logging, mineral excavation and otherwise destroying the land.
