Although I live in Nevada, I frequently travel through the eastern Oregon desert on my way to visit family up north. Traveling through northern Nevada and Oregon always are the highlight of my drive because the landscapes remain wild and open, despite the farmers and ranchers who work these lands. However, the Trump administration is proposing to change how these irreplaceable landscapes are managed. This signals the first step in an attempt to weaken protections for some of Oregon’s most magnificent places, many of which are conserved due to decades of advocacy by the ONDA community. These lands, working and wild, are amazing areas for recreation and for the ecosystem services they provide. I oppose any efforts to reduce established protections so that I and my family can continue to travel through and recreate these lands.
