Summary: The commenter opposes any updates to BLM Manual 6320 that would weaken protections for wilderness and lands with wilderness characteristics. They argue that these areas are essential for wildlife habitat and recreation, and emphasize the need for science-based management to protect declining bird populations.
I oppose any changes to policies for wilderness on public lands that would weaken protections of Wildness and Wilderness Study Areas, Lands with Wilderness Characteristics, or lands under consideration for Wilderness protection.
Revisions of the BLM Manual should require preservation of these limited an irreplacable areas. They provide habitat for wildlife and recreation opportunities. Science should be foremost in consideration for wilderness. And since these lands belong to all of us, the public should have a say in management of these areas.
I am an avid birder and have had the pleasure of birding on BLM lands in our western states. Untrammeled wilderness will promote our declining bird populations. We have lost almost one third of our birds since 1970, in large part due to habitat destruction and fragmentation.
