I oppose this action as proposed, and I ask the agency to weigh the specific harms below. The Forest Service is proposing to reduce public notice and comment requirements for the directives, standards, and guidelines that govern how national forests and grasslands are managed. Giving agency employees more discretion to implement programs without public input means communities lose their ability to shape decisions affecting national forest wildlife, grazing, and wilderness. The Directive System governs Forest Service programs across the entire National Forest System, so shrinking comment requirements removes a key check on decisions that affect millions of acres of public land. Transparent rulemaking on standards and guidelines for national forests is how the public holds the agency accountable, and this proposal would cut that process short. These lands belong to the people of the United States of America. I personally spend a lot of time in the National Forests and Parks of this Country. The trust was set up to protect and manage these lands, not to sell and harvest. Responsible management is the job of the federal government through the American people, they are our heritage and our right. Not everything is about money, the Forests are irreplaceable protected by our forefathers, with foresight and thought, they are not a bargaining chip to be exploited by the corporations that are overtaking our country. Please reconsider the consequences of such actions.
