Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed modifications to oil and gas leasing regulations, arguing that they favor industry profits over environmental protection and public safety. They specifically criticize the reduction of clean-up bonds and the shortened public comment period.
WHY would lowering the clean-up bonds even be considered when they’re already too low? Why the hell should taxpayers & consumers have to foot this bill when we pay a hefty price for the end-product at the pumps, and to heat our homes? With knowledge about the sensitive balance needed to maintain our natural environments, wildlife habitats and the food chain, WHY isn’t restoring the environment of utmost importance to our elected officials? AND reducing a three month comment period to just 10 days doesn’t even give enough time for the news to get out into the public, let alone time for working people to respond! The only explanation for these radical ideas is industry, yet again, trying to take advantage of people and our planet for profits!
