Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed rule, arguing that it creates loopholes for criminal actors and straw purchasers by allowing unlicensed sellers to bypass background checks and record-keeping requirements. They contend that the rule is unsafe and would make it easier for bad actors to traffic weapons.
I am writing to OPPOSE the proposed rule RIN 1140-AB01.
Unlicensed sellers are not required to conduct background checks or maintain transaction records, creating pathways for criminal actors
and straw purchasers. This is not a simplification of existing law, this would exploit loopholes making it
far easier for bad actors to purchase and traffic weapons.
Anyone with guns to sell could simply bypass the checks and sell to anyone. This is insanely unsafe and bad for the public.
