Summary: The commenter, a private individual, supports the designation of D.R. Schaal Agency, Inc. as the official grain inspection and weighing service provider for South Carolina. They argue that the agency's experience with remote data collection and its established relationships with the Port of Charleston make it the most capable choice for supporting the region's grain exports.
We believe D.R. Schaal Agency, Inc. as the official grain inspection and weighing service provider for the state of South Carolina would be the best choice for representing United States agriculture products.
DR Schaal has delivered consistently accurate, timely grade results and weighing services to shippers and buyers across the Lowcountry and other parts of the US. Their use of remote data collection and real-time reporting has been especially valuable for container weight management tied to ocean freight out of the Port of Charleston — a fast-growing export gateway where reliable official grading directly affects our ability to move soybeans, wheat, grain sorghum, cottonseed and grain products competitively.
From our experience, their staff are responsive, professional, and technically capable, and their coordination with the Ports Authority and the trade has supported the orderly marketing of grain in this region. Given South Carolina's projected export growth and the efficiency gains of a single, experienced provider serving the state, I believe Schaal is better positioned than any alternative applicant to provide these services, and I encourage AMS to designate them accordingly.
